Hawk Eye to be introduced in Badminton next year

Hawk Eye concept which has been tested well in cricket as well as tennis is going to be introduced in all tournaments at international level in 2014.

Instant Review System in Badminton

Instant Review System in Badminton

Hawk Eye refers to the technology based decision review system, which will allow players to question line calls which can be reviewed using the snapshots taken by the camera.

This was tested earlier in the Indonesian Open and it appears to be maturing to be ready for full time usage in major tournaments within a year. The plan though is just to use this during the semi-finals and finals of major tournaments to begin with, and then over a period of time, with the maturing of the technology, to push it to other tournaments as well as earlier rounds.

As discussed in the earlier post on this topic, anything that will help improve the quality of the game as well as increase the excitement levels in the viewership is welcome in badminton :-)
