Aryamann, Anoushka Excel In Junior Nationals

HYDERABAD: Aryamann Tandon and Anoushka Parikh won bronze medals at the 40th Junior National Championships that concluded in Jaipur on Sunday.

Aryamann, stormed into under-17 boys semifinals where he was defeated by second seed Arintap Dasgupta 21-13, 21-15 in straight sets. Aryamann won the third place and settled for the Bronze medal. Aryamann trains at the Prakash Padukone Academy, Bangalore.

The 12th seed Aryamann’s enthraling victory came in the quarterfinals when he upset fifth seed Kartikey Gulshan Kumar of Delhi 21-19, 19-21, 22-20 in a match that lasted for about an hour and 20 minutes, the longest of the tournament.

Anoushka, her last junior category tournament saw her winning the bronze medal partnering Sanjana Santosh of Air India in under-19 doubles category. However, they are defeated in the semifinals by the seventh seeds Ashwini Bhatt and Mithula UK of Karnataka 20-22, 19-21.

Mrunmayi and Akshaya, Runners-Up In West Zone Badminton Championship, Nagpur – Maharashtra

Nagpur: Mrunmayi, a standard XII student of Shivaji Science College did well in the West Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship 2015 which concluded at the DY Patil Indoor Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Mrunmayi helped Maharashtra finish runners-up in the team championship where they lost narrowly to Madhya Pradesh 2-3. Mrunmayi also excelled in her individual event also.

Mrunmayi and Akshaya who are second seeded here dismissed Dipti Kuity and Salvi Shah of Gujarat 21-13, 21-20 to book their berth in the finals, where they lost to the top seeds Emilia Silveira and Pranjal Chimulkar of Goa.

Mrunmayi and Akshaya fought hard but lost 20-22, 17-21 to the top seeds in 27 minutes.

Mrunmayi has already qualified to play in the U-19 girls singles at Jaipur as the state singles champion.

“I am happy to seal doubles berth for Jaipur but equally disappointed for not winning the West Zone crown. We did not play well in the final, otherwise we would have definitely emerged champions. In the team event final too, we missed the title by a whisker,” Mrunmayi told TOI on Friday.

To be noted, The eighteen-year-old Mrunmayi had triumphed at Karad and Latur earlier and Mrunmayi, Akshaya pair are the state U-19 girls doubles champions too.

Mrunmayi and Akshaya will be pairing for the forthcoming Junior National Badminton Championship, Jaipur from November 30 to December 6.

Both the finalists are eligible to play in the junior nationals representing the West Zone region.

Examination will be held at Jaipur, Rajasthan during the 40th Inter State – Inter Zonal &
Junior National Badminton Championships 2015 from 30th November to 6th December 2015.

Each State is permitted to send 2 candidates only.

The procedure is as follows.

29-11-2015 — Reporting before 2.00 p.m.
30-11-2015 — Line judging during Inter state Championships.
01-12-2015 — Line judging during Inter state Championships.
01-12-2015 — Theory Examination – at 3.00 p.m at the Venue.
02-12-2015 & 03-12-2015 — Practical Examination.
04-12-2015 — Viva & Practical’s.

Candidates shall be provided free hospitality from 29th to 6th December 2015
(Boarding & Dormitory Accommodation by the Host.Association).

Those interested to avail rail concession; they may contact the concerned State
Association.

Age Bar: Candidates should have at least eighteen (18) years of age but not above from thirty five (35) years as cut off from 01st Jan, 2016. Candidates if have valid caste proof will receive the benefit of upper age relaxation.

Educational Eligibility Norms: Candidates should have Bachelor Degree (Graduation) with knowledge of Computer OR Stenography.
