Qualifiers Nikkita-Aditi In All India Sub-Junior Ranking Semis

NAGPUR: Nikkita Joseph and Aditi Sadhankar stormed into the U-13 girls doubles semifinals in the All India Sub Junior Ranking Badminton tournament at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad on Friday.

Qualifiers Nikkita and Aditi stunned local players Poojitha Goudi Cherla and M Meghana Reddy 21-17, 22-20 in the 25-minute quarterfinal. Earlier in the morning in the pre-quarterfinal, Nikkita and Aditi rallied back strongly to sideline Shrishti Gupta and Ishani Waldia 19-21, 21-19, 21-10 in 45 minutes.

The unseeded pair of Aditi and Nikkita will now clash with top seeds Mansi Singh and Shiwangi Singh for a spot in the final on Saturday.

In the U-13 girls singles, qualifier Aditi lost to second seed Tasnim Mir 6-21, 8-21 in 15 minutes in Round 2. In the first round, Aditi had beaten Ayesha Singh 21-16, 21-15 in 25 minutes.

Both Aditi, student of Centre Point School, Dabha and Nikkita, a student of Modern School, Koradi, train under Chetak Khedikar and Prasad Sadhankar. In the U-15 boys singles, fifth seed Rohan Gurbani was upset by Gautam Walia in the third round. Unseeded Walia defeated Rohan Gurbani 17-21, 21-19, 22-20.

Rohan also failed to cross second round in the U-15 boys doubles. Jayant Rana and Arshad Shaik shocked eight seeds Rohan and Bhavin Karamchandani 21-16, 13-21, 21-18.

NAGPUR: Malvika Bansod, from Nagpur and a student of Centre Point School, Dabha, secured thefirst position in the state DSO badminton trials at Washim recently and will now represent Maharashtra in the SGFI Nationals (School Games Federation Of India) to be held in Andhra Pradesh later this month.

The left-hander is currently India No. 2 in the U-15 girls singles. This year she has many credible wins on her favour and continues with her good form.

NAGPUR: Malvika Bansod, a student of Centre Point School, Dabha has progressed well in her badminton career this week where she has raised to her career high as India No.2 in her U 15 girls category. She has a overall of 1125 points to her credit while the first possition is shared by Aakarshi Kashyap of Chattisgarh and Vaishnavi Jakka Reddy of Telangana with 1200 points each.

She got selected in the Indian Side where she will took part of the Indain Badminton team ever first time her badminton career where she participated in the Asian Junior Championships.

She was ranked No. 8 when she started off this year, her runner up position at the last all India tournament at Gulbarga and a match point loss in the U-15 girls’ singles final against Gayatri Gopichand put her in the No.2 spot.

“It was a pleasant surprise for me. For the last one year, I was trying to crack into first four rankings, which would have enabled me to get selected for representing India in overseas tournaments. I want to give all the credit to my coach Kiran Makode,” Malvika told TOI on Wednesday.

Other ranking results includes, Gayatri Gopichand and Vaishnavi Reddy, U 15 Girls Doubles rank No.1, Ritika Thaker and her partner Simran Singhi of Mumbai suburban No. 2.
