Saina and P. V. Sindhu, who is currently defending her title at Macau Open, are maintaining their current ranking positions.

A series of few early exits and not having consistent performance have made the world rankings slip down for Srikanth, Prannoy and Jayaram to the 8th, 20th and 25th positions respectively.

In the second game, it was a neck to neck battle for the two till 7-7, after which the Chinese slowly gained the momentum he found in hte first game and went ahead of Ajay. NEW DELHI: Former Asian badminton champion and Arjuna awardee, Dinesh Khanna feels Indian shuttlers, including two-time World Championship bronze medallist P.V. Sindhu, can win medals at next year’s Rio Olympics.

“Saina and P.V. Sindhu will do well in the Olympics. Sindhu doing really well, but she often comes under pressure,” said Khanna.

“Sindhu defeats most of the players above her ranking, but often she fails with players below her ranking. I think she comes under mental pressure.
“Nerves also play a role in big matches like Olympics. Winning in Olympics depends upon the form of the day,” said Khanna.

Talking about medal prospect in men’s singles in Rio Olympics, Khanna said he is hopeful that K Srikanth and Ajay Jayaram will do well.

Srikanth currently ranked at world no.7 and seeded one here, made an early exit in the first round with a 16-21 21-23 loss to Christie Jonatan of Indonesia, ranked 40th in the world.

From the first game itself, Srikanth was under pressure and did little to disturb Jonatan, where Jonatan was in full flow of the game. However, Srikanth equalised the score at 14-14 but, could not get past the Indonesian who gave away only two points to Srikanth to end the first game 21-16.

In the second game, Srikant made an valiant effort to win the game and tried to push the match to a decider to the already set Indonesian. The Indonesian was trailing high until Srikanth equalised the scores at 13-13 after which it was a neck to neck battle till 21-21. Jonatan took two early points from here to 23-21 to end the game and match in his favour, thus eliminating Srikanth.

However, Ajay Jayaram, B. Sai Praneeth and H. S. Prannoy, advanced to the second round.

P.V. Sindhu will play her singles match today.

All The Indian Contigents Lose In First Round Of The Hong Kong Open 2015

.Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2015KOWLOON: The second day of the Hong Kong Open Super Series at the Hong Kong Coliseum turned out to be a bad day for the Indian camp as all the Indian shuttlers crashed out in the first round. Except Srikanth, others failed to live up to the expectations.

Srikanth put up a brave fight and was in his matchpoint when he did not convert this oppurtunity to his best against Houwei Tian, the world No. 10 Chinese who won 21-16, 15-21, 24-22 in a match that lasted an hour and 05 minutes.

This was Srikanth’s fifth straight defeat against Tian this year alone.

Without Saina, much was expected from P.V. Sindhu but could not get past the world No.1 and lost 21-17, 21-9 35 minutes of play. With this Marin has avenged here loss against Sindhu from last month’s Denmark Open.

Ajay Jayaram could not get past the world champion Chen Long and lost 21-17, 21-12. Chen Long has a record od 3-0 against Ajay this year alone.

The loss of H.S. Prannoy was probably the most disappointing one for the Indian squad. The world No. 21 was upset by a qualifier Kenta Nishimoto. The Japanese, who is ranked 59 in the world, dismissed Prannoy in three games in their first ever meeting.

In the women’s doubles, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were outsmarted by No. 8 seeds Kyung Eun Jung and Seung Chan Shin of Korea 12-21, 15-21 in 30 minutes.

“It was not a good show by the Indians. Srikanth lost a close one but rest of the players were just not good enough. They had their chances but could not convert them,” a dejected Gopichand told TOI.

It is for the first time in recent days where there is not a single Indian player to compete in the second round.

Kashyap Drops In World Rankings

Parupalli Kashyap.(Image Courtesy :indianexpress.com).

Parupalli Kashyap.

One of the promising and talented shuttlers Kashyap had to go down in his rankings this year as he has not participated in a couple of major international tournaments due to his fitness and injuries.

He will not take part in the progressing Thaihot Chamionships due to a calf muscle tear, he sustained while playing against Rajiv Ouseph at the French Open 2015 badminton championship earlier just before the current tournament.

The BWF released the latest world ranking for all the players. Currently Kashyap has gone down to World No.13. Kashyap was overtaken by South Korean Son Wan Ho, who is in at No.11.

The other Indian top shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth, H.S. Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram are positioned with their previous rankings at No.5, 21 and 25 respectively.

In women’s singles, Indian ace Saina Nehwal remained at No.2 while P. V. Sindhu also did not move from No.13.

In the men’s doubles, Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Reddy are stagnant at No.20.

In the women’s doubles Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa remained at No.11 of women’s doubles.
