MUMBAI: Mumbai Rockets geared up to face the Chennai Smashers on Sunday evening in their second tie of the Premier Badminton League.
Mumbai, who had beaten Awadhe Warriors a day earlier, could not replicate their form, losing the tie 4-3. Chennai’s mixed pair of Chris Adcock and Pia Zebadiah got things rolling, beating their opponents Vladimir Ivanov and Kamilla Juhl 15-10, 7-15, 15-11 in the opening match of the evening. However, H.S. Prannoy, representing The Rocket’s levelled scores with Chennai beating Brice Leverdez of France 15-8, 15-11.
However, The Trump Match between the doubles pair of Mathias Boe and Ivanov against Adcock and Pranaav Chopra was very spectacular. The Mumbai duo raced to an easy 15-10 win in the first game, but Adcock and Chopra fought hard to take the next game 15-9. It was an extremely close contest in the decider Mumbai Rockets win the match 15-13.
P.V. Sindhu, the World No 12, also won her singles match against China’s Han Li 15-8, 11-15, 15-8.
