The drive is the third possible reply for an smashing opponent.
Drives should be played with caution as if your lazy playing or slightly mistimed the smash into a drive reply, the bird nay eventually hit the net or your opponent may play a drive back to you. So when playing a drive, you have to keep your self agile and cautious.
If you can place your drive into the open space, however, it can be an extremely difficult shot for your opponent to get his best possible reply.
The same mantra applies here too, whenever your opponent smashes straight, reply with a cross court drive and vice versa. This is an even more aggressive tactic similar to using Lifts.
Drives are best when your opponent’s smash is flat.
