Saina Nehwal Injured, Out Of Hong Kong Open Super Series 2015

NAGPUR: The top women’s singles shuttler amd World no.2 Saina Nehwal pulled out of the prestigious Hong Kong Open 2015 and $350,000 tournament at the last moment.

Saina earlier had felt pain in her leg while playing her China Open final against the Chinese Olympic champion Li Xuerui itself and was forced to withdraw from Hong Kong.

Saina’s father Harvir Singh confirmed the news. “She was having some pain and could not move properly against Li in the final on Sunday. After the final, she could not even walk properly. Saina and her coach Vimal Kumar requested Badminton Association of India (BAI) to withdraw her entry from the tournament. Her name was there in the draw but they have withdrawn it today (Monday). She will come back to Hyderabad soon,” said Saina’s father.

Now Saina, out of Hong Kong Open 2015, P.V. Sindhu will lead the Indian women’s challenge.

P.V. Sindhu has got a tough draw as she is playing the top seed and reigning world champion Carolina Marin of Spain in the first round.

Sindhu has a lead between the two for a head to head record of 3-2.

It is noteable that Sindhu won against Carolin Marin in the Denmark Open last month.

The prestigious event will begin at the Hong Kong Coliseum on Tuesday.

HONG KONG: The top Indian shuttler and the World no.2 Saina Nehwal will be eager to take part in the $350,000 Hong Kong Open, which commences at the Hong Kong Coliseum here on Tuesday despite her loss in the Thaihot China Open 2015 a few days back.

The Indian will play her first round against Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong. Saina has a 6-2 record against the local girl by winning her last five encounters.

Saina will meet the former World Champion Ratchanok Intanon in the quarter fianls if things go well in place for Saina. A win against against the Thai will make Saina to play against the reigning Olympic champion Li Xuerui or against the fourth seed and defending champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.

It is formidable to note that Saina has till now won only the India Open Super series title in March 2015, Despite being in World No. 1 spot and by defeating almost all the top international women players.
