IBL 2013 Official Coaches of all six teams announced

Indian Badminton League (IBL) organizers have announced the names of all the six coaches for the teams participating in IBL 2013.

Banga Beats – U Vimal Kumar

Vimal Kumar – Coach for Banga Beats IBL 2013 team

Vimal Kumar is a former Indian National player, originally from Kerala. He is currently the director of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore.

Achievements as a Player

  • Two times National Champion
  • Winner at French Open in 1983 and 1984
  • Represented India in 1992 Barcelona Olympics

Delhi Smashers – Rashid Sidek

Rashid Sidek – Coach of Delhi Smashers IBL team in 2013

Rashid Sidek is from Malaysia and one of the popular Sidek brothers who used to rule world badminton purely due to their magic on court.

Achievements as a Player

  • Winner of Malaysian Open in 1990, 1991 and 1992
  • Winner of World Grand Prix in 1992
  • Winner of ABC Championships in 1992
  • Winner of Brunei Open in 1995
  • Winner of French Open in 1996
  • Bronze medal winner in 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games

Hyderabad Hotshots – Rajendra Kumar S

Rajendra Kumar was born on 25th February 1965 and is currently with Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad.

Achievements

  • Joined Gopichand Academy in 2008 and has been instrumental in handling the academy, supporting Gopichand

  • WInner of Swiss Open in 2005
  • Winner of Dutch Open in 2005
  • Winner of Denmark Open in 2005
  • Winner of German Open in 2005
  • Winner of Phillipines Open in 2006

Mumbai Masters – Aparna Popat

Aparna Popat is with Prakash Padukone Academy based out of Bangalore.

Achievements as a Player

  • Won the National championships 9 times between 1997 and 2006
  • Won the French Open Women Singles finals in 1998
  • Won the Gold Medal at the SAARC Championships
  • First Indian Badminton player to reach the finals of World Junior Championships – in 1996 in Denmark
  • Runner up at Commonwealth Games at Kuala Lumpur

Nikhil Kanetkar is a former Indian national badminton player who currently runs Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy in Pune

Achievements

  • Represented India in 2004 Olympic Games

    Please note that Aparna Popat, Mumbai Masters coach is not with the Prakash Padukone Academy in Bangalore and has never participated in the SAARC Championship.
