The Indian Badminton League has started a new programme called Shuttle Express which aims at promoting badminton at school level across the country and to become the biggest school badminton championships in the world.
This programme is officially called IBLSP (Indian Badminton League School Progamme) and is backed by top Indian badminton stars such as Saina Nehwal, Gopichand, P.V. Sindhu, Ashwini Ponnappa, Jwala Gutta and Parupalli Kashyap.
As a part of the IBLSP, there will be an intra school competition from 12th to 14th of July, 2013, followed by the finals between 28th and 31st of August, coinciding with the IBL finals scheduled for 31st of August, 2013.
Top Indian shuttlers will visit the home towns of each of the six teams participating in IBL 2013 and interact with over five lakh students from the 120 schools in these cities.
In New Delhi, the home of Rajdhani Smashers team, Genesis Global School, Expressway, has been chosen as the official school partner for New Delhi.
In Mumbai, the home of Mumbai Masters team, Jamnabai Narsee, Juhu Parle, has been chosen as the official school partner for Mumbai.
In Pune, the home of Pune Vijetas team, Symbiosis Primary and Secondary school has been chosen as the official school partner for Pune.
In Lucknow, the home of Lucknow Warriors team, La Martiniere has been chosen as the official school partner for Lucknow.
In Hyderabad, the home of Hyderabad Hotshots, Indus World School has been chosen as the official school partner for Hyderabad.
In Bangalore, the home of Karnataka Kings teams, Jain International School has been chosen as the official school partner for Bangalore.
There is an incentive of 10 Lakh Rupees as a part of this programme. In addition, the finalists of these tournaments will be selected to train at Gopichand’s academy in Hyderabad.
This programme is definitely a huge boost for badminton in India and it create a lot more interest in the sport in India.
